After the shock that I was actually really engaged weakened, Nick tells me that most of my friends have been in on this from the beginning! Later that same night we were going to a function with these same "friends" and Nick wanted to play a little joke on them. He thought it would be funny if I didn't wear my ring when we showed up (since they all would be expecting it) and then halfway through slip it on and see how long it takes them to notice. I went along with Nick’s little joke and it was surprisingly fun. I noticed when I got there that everyone automatically glanced at my hand when they greeted me. They all thought they knew something I didn’t; but really I knew something they didn’t!
Halfway through I slipped my ring on my hand. No one noticed. I even tried to make gestures to Jaymi to see if she’d notice. She didn’t. Surprisingly her husband Mark noticed first! In her defense she was a little preoccupied with getting food set out. Either way eventually they all caught on and everybody was grabbing my hand and hugging me and Nick to congratulate us!!

With this RING!
I've asked Nick to write a post about the ring since it is his design. It has been a struggle to get him to do this. Blogging really isn't his thing. So, we'll see what happens. For now I'm going to leave this open for him!
Little moments = big moments
It’s no secret that Nick and I had discussed getting married long before he ever asked me. I some how convinced Nick to go with me to our high school homecoming football game in October. Halfway through the third quarter when Nick had seen enough of the Eagles getting their butts kicked he suggested that we walk around campus. We showed Landon and each other where our lockers were and where we ate lunch. We even walked by the very classroom where he and I met. The doors were locked so we couldn’t go inside but we could see the desks from the window. A few weeks later I made a semi-joking comment to Nick that since we met at Ironwood I wonder if they’d let us get married there.
One beautiful Saturday afternoon in November after having lunch at Applebee’s; Nick suggested that we go to our alma mater to look around and ask if it would be possible to hold a wedding there. So off to Ironwood High School we went.

The main campus was more or less closed. There was a wrestling match going on so the parking lot and front gate was open. We attempted to get in the gate that led to the main campus, but a maintenance man yelled at us before we were successful. Nick suggested we go by the front office to check out their hours and instead we sat on the bench.
As we sat there talking and enjoying the day, Nick says “You know this all could have been avoided if you would have went out with me in high school.” I replied, as I always do, “YOU never asked!” This time he starts jotting something down on a piece of paper and then turns around and hands it to me, as he would if he were passing me a note in class. I opened the note and there he has written:
Will you marry me?
Yes
No
Maybe
(With a box next to each answer.)
Overjoyed and jokingly I say, “what if I say ‘no’?” And he says then you won’t get this… and in his hand was the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen! I crystal clear Assher cut diamond solitaire with two pink stones on either side!! Of course I said “YES!!!”

First Date
Although I initiated first contact I was determined to take things slow. I didn’t want to rush into anything and enjoyed Nick’s company and didn’t want to ruin a good thing. Finally after a few months of talking, texting and “hanging out” I let Nick take me on a “REAL” date! And in true Nick form he did not disappoint!
He would not tell me where we were going which drove me NUTS!!! I tried asking probing questions: “Is it outside or in?”, “Can I wear jeans or dress up?”, “Should I wear flip flops, heals, or sneakers?” -Help a girl out!!! Gone is the time a girl can just be picked up for a mystery date! We need to know specifics, facts, details, information to plan our wardrobe, hairstyle, and accessories! I’d hate to get caught going for a hike wearing 3” heals and dress!!! All he would tell me is “No dresses or skirts and sneakers”! That could mean ANYTHING!!!
Finally, Nick picked me up and we went to dinner at Chili’s. Nothing original there... But, then we stopped at an indoor rock climbing facility! How fun is that?!! Who knew there was a ROCK CLIMBING place right down the street from me!
Half way through climbing up fake rocks safely secured to a fake wall I say “Man, I wish I would have brought my camera! This would make a great scrapbook page!” To which Nick replies (without skipping a beat), “We can always come back wearing the same outfits with a camera and pretend it’s the first date.”
A man after my own heart!! I was secretly thinking the exact same thing! But in the past with other boys this suggestion would have received an eye roll and sigh!
I’m in LOVE!!!!

Once Upon a Time....
So I thought I'd start a blog for all our out of town (and in town) friends and family to keep up with all the happenings of the wedding plans. This would be my first time blogging and to be perfectly honest I initial thought the whole thing ridiculous! But, I've moved into this century and here I am.
I guess I should start at the beginning. And that really all starts about 16 years ago....!
Nick and I met at Ironwood High School (Go Eagles!) in freshman science. We sat close to one another; most likely due to alphabetical order by last name… Nick was very shy but I do remember talking to him; although he didn’t say much. I’m sure because he was so busy listening to the teacher. Yeah Right!!! I probably didn’t give him much of a chance to speak. I’ve been know to talk your ear off and ramble if given the opportunity!
Anyway! That is where we met and unknown to me Nick had a HUGE crush on me! Unfortunately he never asked me out. But for those that believe in fate, karma, destiny or what ever you want to call it, know that the story does have a happy ending. I personally like to tell myself that we had to go through the last 16 years apart to become the people we are today to truly appreciate each other now! That sounds a lot better than knowing I missed out on the last 16 years of this wonderful man! But, I’ve gotten side tracked (told you I could ramble!).
Fast forward 16 years later…..
One Sunday night a mutual friend, Nathan Dunn is on my phone announcing that he and Nick Heuer were coming over to my house right now! Yickes! Not right now!!! I’m in bed with no make-up on and in my pajamas!!! I quickly ran a brush threw my hair, slapped on some mascara, and sprayed as much body spray as one person could handle without gagging!
I remember thinking that Nick was much cuter than I remembered. Why did this guy not ask me out in high school?! Maybe, I should have asked him out….?!
A few days later Nathan tells me that Nick had a crush on me all through high school! “NO WAY!!’ I knew since he didn’t ask me out in high there was no way he was going to ask Nathan for my phone number now. Being a modern woman I took the initiative and asked for his number! Just to say “Hi” of course! =D
The rest as the say is history!!! Or at least another post…
